# AcreDog

> Satellite change detection for owners of rural land they cannot easily visit. Draw a box around a parcel, see a current satellite view of it for free — with the sharpest government aerial photo of the same ground alongside it — and get emailed when its ground cover changes between growing seasons.

## What it does

AcreDog watches a parcel of land from space and tells its owner when something changes. An owner draws a box on a map and immediately sees the most recent clear satellite view of that ground at 10 m per pixel, with the sharpest available government aerial photo — about 1 m per pixel, usually a year or more old — one click away where NAIP covers the area. Either can be compared against imagery from years earlier. If they leave an email, AcreDog re-checks the parcel on a schedule and emails them when its ground cover changes between growing seasons.

The audience is absentee landowners — people who own rural or agricultural land they cannot regularly drive out to inspect. Inherited farmland, out-of-state investment parcels, family property several hours away.

## How it decides something changed

AcreDog compares **peak growing-season greenness** (NDVI, a standard satellite measure of live vegetation) between two seasons, rather than comparing two single snapshots. That distinction matters: a single-date comparison confuses an ordinary hay cutting, or a cloudy pass, with a real change. A peak-of-season comparison does not.

Verdicts are deliberately conservative and include an honest "not enough clear imagery" outcome. When the imagery cannot support a conclusion, AcreDog says so rather than guessing.

## Imagery sources

- **NAIP** (USDA National Agriculture Imagery Program) — 0.6–1 m aerial imagery, preferred where available
- **Sentinel-2** (ESA) — 10 m satellite imagery. This is what the free demo shows first, because it is the only source recent enough to describe the land now, and it is what the seasonal NDVI analysis runs on.

Both are public, freely available datasets. Historical comparisons reach back to roughly 2011 for NAIP and 2017 for Sentinel-2.

AcreDog is not live imagery and does not claim to be. Aerial photography is captured periodically, so the most recent available photo of a parcel may be months or years old. The capture date is always shown alongside the image.

## What it is not

- Not a property-boundary or parcel-records service. AcreDog works from a box the owner draws, not from cadastral data, and does not know legal boundaries or ownership.
- Not a security or surveillance product. It reports on vegetation and ground cover between satellite passes; it does not detect people or events in real time.
- Not a GIS platform. There is one question it answers — has this land changed — and it answers that without requiring any GIS knowledge.
